Layoffs at EA

The last couple of days has seen a series of notifications and analysis that are confirmations of the decline in 'Packaged Goods' industry-wide. (Packaged Goods is another way of saying $60 premium retail release)

As EA makes moves into what I call 'Bite Sized' games with the purchase of PlayFish, they will not be abandoning the Packaged Goods sector of the market, but some diversion of investment from this space into more bite-sized entertainment media is in keeping with the market realities.

As a result, EA has announced that it will be laying off some number of staff at multiple locations, including the Redwood Shores facility that I work at.
